The apple journey……in 2015 Scott and Todd Seeberger had thought “What would it be like to own an apple orchard” Seemed innocent enough at the time. How would one go about buying an apple orchard and how would two local boys from Schodack, NY manage and be successful doing such. Scott had 15 years in the Apple sales industry and Todd spent 20 years in the Health Care IT industry. Not exactly Apple farm material. What I really mean is we didn’t grow up on a farm, never worked at a farm and our overall growing experience consisted of a family vegetable garden. So the journey begins

In July 2015, we purchased our first Apple Farm- Windy Hill Orchard, located in Oneida NY. We stumbled upon it using a google search. The previous owners had spent 7 years bringing back an orchard that had been abandoned. They spent countless hours, love, and some struggles to get this old gem back to what she should be. Let’s just say they were exhausted and were looking to sell and move closer to family. For us, it was love a first sight. The small manageable orchard was just what we were looking for to “get our feet wet” We realized during our first visit that the peacefulness and tranquility of the orchard were exactly what we had been looking for. SOLD.

From 2015 to 2019 we continued to manage and grow our farm out in Oneida County. We spent countless hours remodeling, building fire pits, and managing the orchard. We didn’t do this alone. We enlisted the help of Scott’s olders boys, our nephew, and countless friends that spend many hours helpping us. The first fiew years were the toughest but our families who sacrificed a ton spent much of their time together building the dream. We knew we wanted to keep the small family feels but at the same time offer more activities for the kiddos. We started a Fall festival that draws crowds from all over the area. We created a pcinic area and added some adirondack chairs around our fire pit. Basically, we want you to stay awhile…enjoy, unwind and unplug.

In May 2019, we decided it was time to grow Windy Hill so we purchased a 116 Apple Orchard in Castleton NY. Scott and Todd are both born and raised in Castleton NY so this was a definite fit. We both had memories of going to the orchard as we were growing up. This was an excting new opportunity for us that our family could be part of and also keep true to the property as an Apple Orchard. One would think this one would be a breeze since we just purchased one 4 years ago. Of course, we took every lesson learned from 4 years ago and applied it to this orchard but we wanted more. Since May 2019 we have worked tirelessly transforming the orchard to the new goto orchard in the Capital Region. To list a few things…we completely remodeled the Farm Store, added fire pits and Adirondack chairs throughout the orchard, free wagon rides, free corn mazes, and many more exciting attractions. We’re not done adding and changing to this orchard. Much more will come in the upcoming years…stay tuned.
